some teaching ideas
July 2, 2009
Hey Everyone,
Katie checking in here. My mom just reminded me of games from “Odyssey of the Mind” (an organization for teams of students in the US). They have a bunch of website with lists of ideas, but here’s a good one: http://www.geocities.com/nepaootmspon/
A lot of the verbal ones are great for teaching English. Plus, it’s a great opportunity to split kids up into smaller groups.
Not too much else to report here. Teaching today went well – I gave red, white and blue glowsticks to my older students for the 4th of July. We also discuss Polish national holidays and their similarities/differences from American ones. That was pretty cool. And my younger students did some crafts of various important figures in American history. They made it into a kid of race – which always makes things more exciting
We also played “fish and shark tag,” where one shark is in the middle of circle and has to yell “All the fishes wearing _(e.g. ange, purple)___ have to cross the ocean” then they try to catch people as they run across. It’s a little rendition of a game in the teaching packet from LE.
Excited for Sanok tomorrow! Mariah and I are going to meet up in Zakliczyn and carpool together.
Katie
